At every board meeting during the school year, Mesa Public Schools will recognize a Spotlight School. The Spotlight School at the December 10 meeting was Skyline High School. Below are principal Dr. Greg Mendez's remarks on each honoree.
Student Spotlight: Angelina Lopez Pollorena
It is our absolute privilege to introduce a student who exemplifies leadership, dedication, and service. Angelina Lopez Pollorena is a remarkable individual who has made an indelible mark on the Skyline school community and beyond.
She is the Battalion Commander of our JROTC program—the highest-ranking cadet in the program—Angelina demonstrates exceptional leadership and a tireless commitment to excellence. She also serves as the Marksmanship Commander, leading her team with precision and discipline, and served as an integral member of the Raiders Varsity Team and currently, the JROTC Drill Team, showcasing her versatility and teamwork.
Beyond JROTC, Angelina has made a significant impact as a member of the School Student Advisory Committee, lending her voice to represent her peers and advocate for positive change. Her leadership extends well beyond the classroom, where she inspires others to strive for greatness.
This summer, Angelina reached a milestone few achieve. During her junior year, she enlisted in the Arizona Army National Guard and graduated from the U.S. Army Basic Combat Training School. Today, she proudly holds the rank of Private First Class—a testament to her resilience, discipline, and unwavering commitment to serve her community and country.
Angelina embodies what it means to be a leader, a role model, and a patriot. Please join me in congratulating Angelina Lopez Pollorena for her outstanding achievements and recognizing her as a shining example of excellence at Skyline High School.
